Dubrovnik is an amazing city.  It is almost perfectly preserved after many centuries, and our guide said the city had more than 500 years of peace (before Napolion).  Whenever a conquering army came to the area, they sent out emissaries to bribe the army to leave them in peace... and they did. For that time, the city was a center of trade and commerce.  Today, it's still a beautiful place.
